Dr. Jane Appleby serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to joining the executive leadership team of Methodist Hospital, Dr. Appleby served as Chief Quality Officer for the Methodist Healthcare System. During this time, Methodist Healthcare System achieved recognition as a recipient of the Texas Award for Performance Excellence in 2013 and Methodist Hospital received the Texas Medical Foundation Health Quality Institute Gold Award in 2012.
Dr. Appleby served on many regional and state boards and committees primarily, dedicated to improving clinical quality and safety. Dr. Appleby has also authored or contributed to journal articles, chapters and books. She is a member of the Texas Hospital Association’s Hospital Physician Executive Constituency. Dr. Appleby served as Chair of this group in 2013 and 2014 also participating as an Ex-officio Member of the Texas Hospital Association Council on Policy Development during this period.
A longtime member of the San Antonio community, Dr. Appleby enjoyed the practice of Internal Medicine for 20 years, initially in the academic setting subsequently transitioning to private practice with a focus and passion for hospice and palliative care.
Dr. Appleby is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and received her degree in medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she also completed internship and residency. She completed a Master’s of Business Administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2015.
Dr. Appleby is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and of the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and maintains a faculty appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Jane is an artist and a student of the healing arts. She enjoys painting and sculpting in her Texas Hill Country Studio.
